White-light Source Enables Miniature Design

Philips Lumileds™ LUXEON® Portable PWT1 power LED provides highbrightness white light while occupying very little PCB area.

The part offers a greater light output than other similarly sized devices in the same class of product: 26 lumens at 350mA from a part housed in a package measuring only 2mm x 1.6mm x 0.7mm.

Uniform white light is produced by the device, a capability supported by the company's conformal coating process.

The Portable PWT1 is approximately 75% smaller than other LEDs with similar light output. It also delivers 4.5 times the lumens/mm2. As a result, it enables the design of products with smaller optics, smaller form factors and less weight than has previously been possible.

These devices produce a nearly perfect Lambertian radiation pattern, which makes for a highly efficient optical design. They also use surface mount technology, making them easy to assemble on the PCB.
