Cost-effective, 600mA highly efficient SP6659 synchronous buck regulator from Sipex is ideal for today's portable applications.

The SP6659 is designed to provide cost and space savings for portable application designs such as cell phones, PDAs, digital cameras and mp3 players.

It offers high efficiency over the full load range with low on-resistance synchronous switches and pulse skipping operation at light loads, efficiency and lowering output ripple. This means a reduction of possible audio/RF circuitry interference. A 1µA quiescent current means longer battery life in portable electronic equipment.

With a 1.5MHz, fixed-frequency operation, the use of small surface mount inductors and capacitors, this very compact solution has a footprint of a mere 5mm x 7mm. A wide 2.5V to 5.5V input voltage range makes it ideal for single cell Li-Ion or 3-cell NiCad and NiMH applications. The 100% duty cycle operation results in a low dropout voltage and allows maximum energy to be extracted from the battery. Output voltage for the adjustable version of SP6659 can be programmed using two resistors to any value above the 0.6V internal reference voltage.

The SP6659 protects against output overvoltage, output short-circuit and over temperature conditions.
