i.MX31 Lite Kit

The i.MX31 Lite Kit is a low cost, high performing application development kit for evaluating the popular i.MX31 application processor from Freescale Semiconductor.

The i.MX31 Lite Kit consists of an i.MX31 SOM (System On Module) card with DDR, NOR Flash and NAND Flash, standard peripheral connectors supporting: Ethernet, LCD, Audio In/Out, Serial, CompactFlash®, MMC/SD, USB host, USB OTG, ATA and software including LogicLoader (bootloader/monitor), GNU cross development tool chain (compiler, linker, assembler and debugger) and a WinCE BSP.

Out of the box, customers will be able to download a sample WinCE image to pull up the familiar WinCE desktop, with programs such as PowerPoint and Solitaire. Customers can then start developing their own applications in WinCE or choose to write their own software for the board.

The i.MX31 Lite Kit is a great addition to the existing hardware development boards from Freescale, which include the fully featured i.MX31 ADS (Application Development System). By partnering with LogicPD, Freescale is able to provide a more cost effective development solution with minimal loss of functionality when compared to the ADS. Additionally, the i.MX31 SOM module can improve customers’ time to market by providing an off-the-shelf embedded computing module whose 59mm x 76mm form factor size easily meets the requirements for many OEMs in the medical, industrial and consumer markets.

The i.MX31 is an exciting addition to Freescale’s i.MX applications roadmap, which includes multiple ARM9 and ARM11 products focused on SmartSpeed technology, which ensures the highest performance at the lowest possible power consumption. Specifically, the i.MX31 contains an ARM1136JFS core with enhanced multimedia capabilities such as hardware acceleration for MPEG4 encoding and peripherals such as USB OTG 2.0, LCD controller, PCMCIA/CF and UARTs.

Upcoming enhancements to the i.MX31 Lite Kit, include Linux and RTOS support. Next generation i.MX SOM cards will also be compatible with these kits.
