Vishay Vitramon announced the release of the industry’s first surface mount, high voltage multilayer ceramic chip capacitors (MLCCs) designed to prevent surface arc-over. The new devices provide maximum capacitance in high voltage ratings and an increased capacitor voltage breakdown.

The HVArc Guard MLCCs feature a unique and worldwide patent-pending internal design structure that prevents surface arc at high voltages. This design allows for extended capacitance ranges of surface mount ceramic chip capacitors and facilitates the use of smaller case sizes in high voltage products, allowing for device miniaturization and reducing component cost. The HVArc Guard will be used in lighting systems and in power supplies for medical, industrial, military and telecommunications equipment

FEATURES

For this patent-pending technology

  • Surface mountable, multilayer ceramic capacitors that protect against surface arc-over
  • Higher capacitances and smaller case sizes that save board space, as compared to standard high voltage MLCCs
  • Voltage breakdowns are twice that of some competitor products
  • Excellent reliability and high voltage performance
APPLICATIONS
  • Buck and boost DC-to-DC converters
  • Voltage multipliers for flyback converters
  • Lighting ballast circuits
  • Lighting systems and power supplies for medical, computer, motor control and telecommunications applications
