ZigBee Markets and Applications
ZigBee for Industrial
It is used for automated meter reading (AMR) for utility and energy management, logistics and inventory tracking, security and access control. Systems tracking for preventive maintenance and performance monitoring. Seismic detectors, inclinometers, robotics and security systems and remote controlled machines.etc.
ZigBee for Business
Building control and automation, wireless lighting, security and access control and asset and inventory management and controlling security systems.
ZigBee at Home
Home control and automation, environmental control, security and access control. Home automation systems with lighting and HVAC control devices, security systems, blind and curtain controls, remote controls for set top boxes and other digital entertainment devices, remote monitoring and control. Consumer products with accessory interfaces can add ZigBee technology functionality after purchase – e.g. compact Flash or PCMCIA slots in PDAs or notebook PCs.
Benefits of ZigBee Technology
The markets targeted by ZigBee technology are mature markets for traditional wired communications where wireless uptake in these markets is a predicted expectation.
Standards-Based
Because ZigBee technology is based on industry standards, it provides interoperability among devices from different manufacturers, and also offers simplicity and a cost effective approach to building, construction and remodeling. Battery powered networks are sustained by the low power consumption features of ZigBee technology.
In addition to retrofitting, technology based on the ZigBee protocol may help to reduce costs for OEMs as typical target applications already use a micro; there is only a minimal incremental cost needed for additional memory added to the micro to house the MAC and ZigBee software.

Freescale Semiconductor has introduced a ZigBee® development kit, the BeeKit Wireless Connectivity Toolkit, comprised of application samples and powerful configuration tools to accelerate development of wireless networking systems.
The new BeeKit™ includes a graphical software environment that allows users to create wireless networking solutions, including
configuring and validating parameters to control the set-up and execution behavior of the wireless link, without having to navigate through
multiple source files. These parameters can be set quickly via easy-to-use dialog boxes, and validated prior to generating a workspace.
Developers can quickly begin building applications using the wireless networking libraries including Freescale's Simple MAC (SMAC),
802.15.4 compliant MAC and BeeStack Zigbee stack. BeeKit includes the code base for the protocol stacks as well as demos and sample
applications.
Upon completion of the radio setup with Beekit, the designer may export wireless solutions to the integrates development environment,
such as CodeWarrior for HCS08, to build and debug the application.
BeeKit supports the following Freescale wireless networking solutions:
MC1319x Family Generation I Transceivers
MC1320x Family Generation II Transceivers
MC1321x Family System in Package Solutions (SiP)
