The Freescale MCF5253 32-bit microcontroller combines the V2 ColdFire® core and extensive power management features with an integrated USB OTG port, to accelerate the development of portable connected devices.

Developers will also benefit from free USB software, available with the MCF5253, to further ease design and reduce development costs. By integrating both the High Speed USB OTG Device Controller and PHY, the MCF5253 eliminates the need for external USB components. The MCF5253 not only simplifies the design process but also allows physically smaller end products. The MCF5253 is suitable for numerous consumer applications including point of sale, Voice-over IP (VoIP) and medical instrumentation.

With 1.8V core operating voltage for low power consumption, as well as 128kByte on-chip SRAM with integrated power management, the MCF5253 allows designers to maximize battery life in industrial control and consumer applications. Other valuable on-chip peripherals include an enhanced Multiply Accumulate Controller (eMAC) for fast signal processing of audio and other data streams, as well as a Flash media interface to facilitate integration of widely used removable media formats.

MCF5253 Evaluation Board

M5253EVB is a versatile single-board computer based on the MCF5253 ColdFire® processor. It may be used as a powerful microprocessor-based controller in a variety of applications. It serves as a complete microcomputer system for reference design, development/evaluation, training, and educational use. The user need only connect an RS-232 compatible terminal (or a personal computer with terminal emulation software) and a power supply to have a fully functional system.
