Lowest Cost, Lowest Power ColdFire® MCU with USB Connectivity

Freescale Semiconductor’s MCF5221x and MCF521xx parts are the lowest cost, lowest power, 32-bit microcontrollers in the ColdFire® Family. The MCF5221x features a USB OTG controller, maintaining the USB functionality of the MCF5222x and lowering the cost of entry. Freescale also provides a complementary USB software stack created by CMX, designed to save customers time and money.

Based on the highly successful ColdFire® V2 core, two bus speeds are available in a variety of low cost package options. The 64KByte Flash parts are in a 64 LQFP package with a 66MHz bus. This part features 2 UARTs, Real Time Clock, DMA, Timers, ADC and other Serial Communication peripherals. The larger 128KByte Flash parts feature an optional, additional, UART and are available in a number of packages. The package options include a low pin count 64 LQFP, or larger pin count 100 LQFP with additional general purpose I/O.

To enable easy upward migration, both the MCF521xx and MCF5221x parts are pin compatible with the higher specification devices in the family, the MCF521x and the MCF5222x. The MCF5221x features a USB OTG controller, maintaining the USB functionality of the MCF5222x at lower cost.

MCF5211
The MCF5211 microcontroller is a low cost, low power single chip solution with up to 128kB of high performance, near single access, interleaved and securable embedded Flash memory. Moreover, the MCF5211 embedded controller communication peripherals provide easy connection to other systems. Three universal asynchronous receiver/transmitters (UARTs) enable medium to long distance communication to other control systems or computers. An inter-integrated circuit (I²C) and queued serial peripheral interface (QSPI) enable in-system communication to connected peripherals and systems, including LCDs and keyboards. All this is offered along with the high performance V2 ColdFire core that even incorporates a multiply and accumulate module (MAC) for DSP like operation.

 

MCF5212
The MCF5212 microcontroller is a cost-sensitive, low power single chip solution with up to 256kB of high performance, near single access, interleaved and securable embedded Flash memory. Moreover, the MCF5212 embedded controller communication peripherals provide easy connection to other systems. Three universal asynchronous receiver/transmitters (UARTs) enable medium to long distance communication to other control systems or computers. An inter-integrated circuit (I²C) and queued serial peripheral interface (QSPI) enable in-system communication to connected peripherals and systems, including LCDs and keyboards.
