The SP1486E is a half duplex differential line transceiver suitable for high speed bidirectional communication on multi-point bus transmission lines.

Each device contains one differential driver and one differential receiver. Devices comply with TIA/ EIA-485 and TIA/EIA-422 standards and also meet the higher drive and tighter skew requirements of PROFIBUS applications.

ENHANCED FAILSAFE PROTECTION RS-485 communicates using differential voltages Receivers sense whether A>B or B>A A=B then receiver state is indeterminate Failsafe guarantees logic 1 if A=B Most standard RS-485 will only failsafe if the receiver inputs are OPEN i.e. if the cable is unplugged, inputs floating SP1486E include an Enhanced Failsafe Failsafe protection if inputs either open or SHORTED Protects if there is a termination resistor on the line Protects if bus-driver is off (tri-state) or loses power Protects if wires were pinched together, bridged or shorted
