The Super 0.5W Power PLCC-4 surface mount LED family from Avago Technologies is the smallest package (3.2 x 2.8 x 1.9mm) to deliver mid power LED performance. The enhanced package design is capable of dissipating heat more efficiently, providing superior thermal management and consistent light output at high drive currents (150mA). This small package provides higher light output and improved flux performance. |
Avago’s ASMT-QWB2 (white) and ASMT-QxB2
(red, red-orange, amber) are designed for higher
reliability and long operating life under a wide range
of environmental conditions. The performance
characteristics of these new mid power LEDs
make them uniquely suitable for use in harsh conditions
in automotive interior/exterior lighting applications,
electronics signs and signals (ESS), as
well as the needs of the industrial and consumer
applications.
Maximizing Flexibility and Reducing Production Costs
The high brightness output and small package
footprint provides lighting designers greater
flexibility when designing the size, shape and
appearance of lighting assemblies. To facilitate
easy pick-and-place assembly, the LEDs are
packed in EIA-compliant tape and reel. Every reel
is shipped in single intensity and color bin (except
for red) to provide close uniformity.
Avago’s Super 0.5W LEDs provide two additional
significant advantages in the production environment
to minimize production costs. The devices
can be easily soldered using conventional surface
mount techniques. They are compatible with the
IR solder reflow process and can also be mounted
using through-the-wave soldering process.
The package is also qualified to JEDEC moisture
sensitive level MSL 2a. For manufacturers, this rating
means the product can be kept in open air (in
30ºC, 60% relative humidity) for up to four weeks
after being removed from its sealed package, without
the need to remove the absorbed moisture.
