Integrated White LED Drivers
|
The AME5134/36/42 are dedicated for the drive of white LEDs. |
The AME5134 drives white LEDs in series with
a constant current to provide efficient display
backlighting in cellular phones, PDAs and
other handheld devices. The step-up converter
includes an internal 30V, low RDSON, N-channel
MOSFET switch for high efficiency and maximum
battery life.
To control LED brightness, the LED current can be
pulsed by applying a single analog/PWM signal
with a frequency range of 100Hz to 10kHz to
the control pin (CTRL). A separate enable input
provides on/off control. Soft-start minimizes
inrush current during start up.
The AME5136 is a dual boost DC-to-DC converter,
designed to drive up to 4 white LEDs with a
constant current and to power an organic LED display
with a constant voltage. According to SEL pin
status, the AME5136 can either regulate output
current flowing
through series connected
LEDs or regulate
output voltage
applying to OLED.
A single external
resistor is used to set
the maximum LED
current. The LED current
can be adjusted by applying a PWM signal to
the EN pin. Pulling the EN pin to GND disables the
chip and reduces the supply current to less than
1uA. Additional features include a low-side NFET
switch that can turn off the LED string with no DC
current path to ground. Other features include OVP,
OCP, UVP and OTP achieves ideal current matching
of the LEDs to provide uniform lighting.
AME5142 is a fully integrated white LED boost
converter that drive up to six white LEDs in
series to simplify and miniaturize color LCD display
illumination used in digital cameras, cell phones
and PDAs.
A series configured array of white LEDs is currently
considered the most effective backlighting solution
for the design of color LCD displays because this
architecture achieves ideal current matching of the
LEDs to provide uniform lighting.
The devices operate as a DC-to-DC boost
converter that regulates the current through the
LED string. Dimming is accomplished by applying
a pulse width modulated signal (PWM) to change
the average output current.
