Electrostatic discharge (ESD) is a high-voltage transient with fast rise and decay times – otherwise known as a voltage spike. ESD voltages can rise as high as several thousand volts. Combined with the fast rise time, this can cause serious damage to a system.

Important industry trends are making ESD an even more important issue. There is growing demand for smaller, more complex systems with more external interfaces. This increases the opportunities for ESD to enter a system. Furthermore, as electronic devices become faster and smaller their sensitivity to ESD increases.

Our extensive range of ESD protection diodes and arrays delivers outstanding protection against ESD and other voltage-induced transient pulses. Small and with ultra-low leakage currents, these ESD protection products are ideal for space- and power-constrained applications including battery-powered and handheld devices. Furthermore, NXP offers a dedicated ultra-high-speed series. With line capacitances as low as 1pF, these devices are ideal for protecting high-speed and high-frequency data lines even above 1GHz.
