Wire-to-Board IDC Connector Series 9175 and 9176

The new 9175/9176 connector series from AVX allows users to easily terminate individual wires using IDC technology to a connector surface mounted on a PCB.

Currently available in both 2 and 3 ways, it is end to end stackable, allowing the user to increase the effective number of ways it can be used. The part is low profile and occupies a small SMT PCB footprint. The product allows a quick and easy wire termination with the dedicated single wire insertion tools.

Series 9175 is suitable for the termination of 26 and 28 AWG wires and is rated at 1A current rating (although the limitation is the wire), and series 9176 accepts wire sizes from 18 to 24 AWG with a current rating of 10A. Both stranded and solid wires can be accepted.

Before wire termination, the part is surface mounted to the PCB. It is supplied packaged in tape and reel for quick and easy PCB placement. Using a hand insertion tool, wires are inserted into the contact slots. This IDC process cuts through the insulation and enables the conductors of the wire to form a gas tight reliable joint with the contact. The shape of the molding forms a restraint to the wire when fully fitted in the contact.

This product offers the advantage of terminating to both stranded and solid wire, no pre-stripping and wire preparation is required. It has a small PCB footprint and suits a large range of wire gauges and types.
