Next from NXP: Platform-Based Reference Design Optimized for Industrial Controls
ARM7 Designer’s Tool Makes it Quick and
Easy to Develop a Range of Products for
Industrial Applications
Optimized for industrial control applications,
the NXP LPC2468 ARM7 microcontroller based
reference design saves development time by
making it easy to demonstrate performance in
a system environment. Its modular format uses
a base, core and application boards for added
flexibility and a range of configurations.
The NXP reference design permits quick and easy
development of a range of products for industrial
applications. Each platform is based on a modular
concept that lets the designer use a single control
board with a selection of NXP application boards
optimized for different market segments.
Using NXP’s cost effective ARM7 microcontrollers
as the basis for each platform means that
designers can create competitive, highly
differentiated products at a lower overall cost.
The application board plugs directly into the
base board via a common application connector
and software configures the system for
plug-and-play operation.
Application boards for solid-state lighting (SSL)
LED drivers, CAN, DC motor controllers, DALI,
DMX and sensors are currently available. Other
application boards are under development.
Main Board
The main industrial control board includes an
NXP ARM7 microcontroller LPC2468 running
Micrium µC OS2 RTOS.
The LPC2468 microcontroller has 512KB of
on-chip high speed Flash memory. It incorporates
a 10/100 Ethernet Media Access Controller (MAC),
a USB full speed device/host/OTG controller
with 4KB of endpoint RAM, four UARTs, two
CAN channels and a collection of serial
communications interfaces.
The main board also includes circuitry for the
power supply and for connectivity. The power
circuitry is optimized for cost and efficiency in
embedded applications. Compatible with NXP’s
sample power sourcing boards, it supports 3.3V
and 5.0V operation. The power supply can be
110/220V AC, 48V DC or 5V USB.
General Application Boards
The SSL DALI board, the first of several SSL
application boards, is designed for LED Signage
Control applications. Its embedded firmware offers
ON, OFF, Brightness and Color control, providing
an easy-to-use interface.
The CAN board is designed for commercial
trucks, buses, agricultural equipment and other
CANbased applications. It demonstrates the
interaction between Master/Slave and control
of remote sensors, actuators and user
interface functions.
Support Documentation
An intuitive user interface controls basic operation
of the system. For more detailed programming and
analysis, there is a more technical interface that
lists status information, register values and more.
Example C source code shows how to operate
the device and gives designers a head start on
development.
To simplify design and speed time to market, each
kit is supplied with a complete set of application
documents for all of the hardware and software.
