Introducing New 8-Bit MCUs with LCD Capability
Freescale introduces the first S08 ultra-low-power
MCU with LCD driver. The MC9S08LL16/8
helps you reach your target performance levels
while minimizing power consumption in
your design, demonstrating extreme energy
efficiency for ultra long operation in battery
powered applications. The S08LL16 (LL16)
microcontroller offers two ultra-low-power stop
modes, new low-power run and wait modes, six
microsecond wake-up time, ultra-low-power
external oscillator and clock gating registers to
disable clocks to unused peripherals.
The LL family also provides design flexibility with
a large segment-based (8 x 24) driver and an
integrated charge pump to provide a true system-on-chip.

Freescale introduces the first RS08 cost
effective MCUs with LCD drivers. The highly
integrated but extremely low cost MC9RS08LA8
and MC9RS08LE4 MCUs are intended for
small appliances, medical equipment and other
industrial and multi-market applications.
The LA and LE families provide design flexibility
with a large segment-based (8x mode) driver and
an integrated charge pump to provide true system-on-chip functionality.

Flexible, Scalable, Compatible – with Ultra Low-Power Options
On November 5, 2008 at FTF in Beijing, Freescale introduced a trio of 8-bit MCU families (S08LL, RS08LA, RS08LE). The L family has industry leading LCD capabilities, including the ability to drive more segments with fewer pins (up to 8x mode). In addition, the S08LL family offers best-in-class, ultra low-power performance.
The L family will offer industry leading advanced key features for consumer and industrial markets
- Full range portfolio, with pin compatibility options and shared peripherals
- Frontplane and backplane reassignment simplifies PCB layout and EMI optimization
- LCD driver support for up to 8 backplanes to drive more segments with fewer pins
- LCD blink mode without waking up the controller, which lowers power consumption
- S08 LCD family offers best-in-class, ultra low-power performance and contrast control
